Marilyn Minter

All of Marilyn Minter's luminous, surreal pop art paintings require they be captured in high definition, reflection-free digital imaging. But in a recent shoot of the high gloss, glam close up diptych shown above, the size of Marilyn's studio limited our ability to shoot the whole work as one without generating reflections. So we elected to shoot each panel of the diptych separately and then seam the images together in Photoshop. The resulting image? A perfectly merged diptych marked by exuberant color, striking three dimensionality and rich, even toned lighting that exactly replicates the original work. Because of the size and resolution of the still images we opted to shoot for Marilyn, we knew in advance that we could leverage these images to create an additional presentation tool: a dramatic zoom-out video that the artist now uses regularly to demonstrate her multi-layered, brush and finger applied painting techniques.
